Singer-Songwriter Carolyn Dawn Johnson to Produce Anthem for Female Self Confidence Movement

Juno Award-Winning Artist Latest High Profile Supporter of the Sparkle Project BC

 January 9, 2015 (Abbotsford, BC)

Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Carolyn Dawn Johnson has become the latest high profile Canadian woman to throw her support behind the female self-confidence initiative The Sparkle Project BC by offering to produce and financially sponsor its Kristal Barrett-Stuart penned anthem, “Sparkle”.

Country singer-songwriter Kristal Barrett-Stuart launched the Sparkle Project BC in 2014 with the goal of producing self-help resources and bursaries focused on a pre-adolescent and adolescent female demographic. Women such as broadcasters Tamara Taggart and Erin Cebula and television personalities Fiona Forbes and Jillian Harris have participated in the Sparkle Project BC by contributing their success strategies and girlhood recollections to an upcoming non-fiction book entitled Sparkle: An Inspirational Handbook For Girls. Partial proceeds from the sale of the song and book will fund bursaries for young British Columbian women who need financial assistance to develop their talents and pursue their interests.

"Kristal and her Sparkle Project touched my heart,” says Johnson. “I knew I had to make time to help because it rings very true to me and I love to empower other females. Kristal's passion and efforts will directly benefit young girls and women and I'm thrilled to be a part of making her dreams come true.  There is great power in setting goals, and I'm proud to be involved in a project that teaches others to shoot for the moon.”

Johnson rose to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart in 1999 with “Single White Female”, a song she co-wrote with Shay Smith. In 2001, the Juno Awards named her Female Artist of the Year.

"To have Carolyn Dawn Johnson produce and sponsor this song is an absolute dream come true,” exclaims Barrett-Stuart. “She is not only one of my idols, she is also a remarkably talented singer, songwriter, musician and producer. Carolyn oozes so much sparkle and is the perfect person to bring this song to life. Somebody pinch me!”

“Sparkle” is slated for release in the spring of 2015. For more information about the Sparkle Project BC, visit

About the Sparkle Project BC

The Sparkle Project BC is a movement that seeks to inspire and equip young girls to lead healthy, self-confident, and successful lives.

Born out of the country singer and entrepreneur Kristal Barrett-Stuart’s vision board workshop for girls, Sparkle is now a growing community of British Columbian entrepreneurs, artists, and public figures.

The women of Sparkle are pooling their collective wisdom to create inspirational and practical resources for young women. These resources include a book entitled Sparkle: An Inspirational Handbook for Young Girls, a Barrett-Stuart-penned song called “Sparkle”, Sparkle merchandise, and workshops across British Columbia.

Partial proceeds from all Sparkle activities will fund bursaries for young girls who need financial assistance to pursue their dreams.
